Being myself/ Yo misma.

Most of what I sew, or I embroider is inspired by something happening around me. My embroidery patterns come from my daughters' young age, always chasing me with their games and stories. Suddenly, they're spending more time with their friends, playing outside, going on the computer: being themselves. I'm glad I still have my seven year old chasing me around as her sisters are becoming a bit more independent. All these changes make my ideas for embroidery patterns shift a bit (or a lot??), and the birdies and the cakes are becoming part of the past. Just for me; you still can get these patterns at my etsy store ;)

I noticed that I was getting bored of the same stitches all the time, and I started looking for some new inspiration in both: the patterns, and the technical parts of embroidery.

I came across lots of letterings, and embroidered alphabets too. Then, I found Handlettering Cite via Pinterest. Although his letterings are not available as embroidery patterns I contacted Alex, and asked about the possibilities. He gladly accepted to e-mail me a PDF version of one of the letterings, and also offered the printed poster in exchange for the embroidery piece. I had nothing to loose. If you know me, you know I have no problem sharing what's available.

I love working on this piece. The fact that these lettering are not design specially for embroidery made the stitches unpredictable, and I got to try different things. I used mostly stitches from my new embroidery dictionary, and I also consulted Mary Corbet's how to's a lot. I ended up stitching this piece twice. First, I was using a Kaffe Fasset Shot Cotton with a stabilizer but when I got to the satin stitch it was almost impossible to make a decent work. I was obsessed with the satin stitch, “Taken” had to be done in satin stitch!! I started all over again on some blue cotton fabric, the same I used for my SGQ background. It worked much better, and actually very pleasant to stitch on. The satin stitch was the most difficult part, lots of unstitching went on and on in that part. The coral stitch was a bit complicated too. I figured it's easier to stitch it without a hoop.

In conclusion, I can tell you that it won't be the last lettering piece I make. Embroidering these kind of messages, thinking of what I want to tell my girls is a good way to feel inspired and continue on my stitching journey.

La mayoría de las cosas que coso o bordo es inspirado por lo que pasa alrededor mío. Mis patrones de bordado son inspirados por mis hijas siempre detrás de mi con sus juegos y sus historias. Resulta que las chiquitas están creciendo y pasan más tiempo jugando con sus amigas, usando la computadora, siendo ellas mismas. En cuanto a mi, yo feliz de que todavía tengo una enana de siete años persiguiéndome y hablándome todo el tiempo mientras sus hermanas van creciendo y volviéndose más independientes. Mientras todo esto va pasando, mis ideas en cuanto a mis patrones de bordado van cambiando y los pajaritos con los pasteles se van volviendo cosa del pasado. Pero solo para mi, ustedes todavía pueden encontrar mis patrones de bordado en mi tienda etsy ;)

Ya me estaba aburriendo de las mismas puntadas de bordado todo el tiempo y empecé a buscar algo que me inspirara tanto en la parte de los moldes, como en la parte técnica del bordado. Me encontré este lugar: Handlettering Cite vía Pinterest y aunque estos posters no están disponibles como patrón de bordado contacté a Alex y le pregunté si era posible comprar un PDF de su poster. Muy amablemente el aceptó y no solo me mando el diseño en PDF sino que también me mando el poster por correo a cambio del un bordado de el mismo. Yo no tenía nada que perder. Los que me conocen personalmente saben que yo no tengo ningún problema en compartir lo mío.

Me encantó trabajar en esta pieza. El hecho de que estas letras no fueron diseñadas especialmente para ser bordadas hizo que el bordado fuera totalmente impredecible y pude experimentar con muchas puntadas diferentes. Usé mi nuevo diccionario de puntadas de bordado y también consulté muchos de los videos de Mary Corbet. Aparte de todo esto, acabé bordando esta pieza dos veces. Primero usé una tela de Kaffe Fasset Shot Cotton con un estabilizador de bordado atrás. Cuando llegué a la parte del punto satín me fue imposible lograr un buen acabado, estaba obsesionada con que el "Taken" tenía que ser en punto satín!! Así que empecé todo otra vez en un corte de la tela azul, el mismo que usé en mi SGQ. Funcionó mucho mejor y el bordado se tornó muy placentero. El punto satín fue el más difícil de todos, lo desbaraté muchas veces para volverlo a hacer. El punto coral (se llamará así en español??) es complicado también y fue más fácil hacerlo sin el aro de bordar.

En conclusión les puedo decir que este no será el último mensaje o dicho que borde. Bordar estos mensajes pensando en lo que le quiero decir a mis hijas es una manera positiva de sentirme inspirada y continuar con los bordados.

Esta pieza se va ahora hasta California, espero que a Alex le guste tanto como nos gustó a nosotros. Gracias Alex por compartir tu arte conmigo!! Y bueno, para las chicas ya habrá miles de mensajitos para bordarles.
