Three Kitchen Fairies

Seven things.

Today I organized the time that I have left before Christmas. It seems like I’ll be done right on time for when the girls are off on winter brake. I was meticulous about which day I will do what until I realized that there where five B-days on the way all mixed up in my well organized schedule. I guess I’ll be really busy for the next couple of weeks but that's ok and fine with me. Last weekend, for example, I was invited to my friends’ baby’s second Birthday. I had to come up with something gracious enough and I made these:

 

The cat is a freebie from WeeWonderfuls, and the t-shirt idea from House on Hill Road. I just came up with my own version, Erin made hers with tally marks. I have to make two more of these: one with a six and another one with a four. I also made this for Danny. He is one of my BFF children who just turned two. Jose and I love him and it is so hard not to think of having more children when he is around. Happy B-Day Dan Dan!!

On another subject, I was tagged by Lou with seven things about myself.

Here I go:

1.- I bite my nails too. Sometimes I stop but not for long.

2.- I had two natural births after a C-Section. I hope you don’t mind me but I feel somehow proud of it.

3.- I love having babies. If I weren’t aware of issues such as economy, and overpopulation I would sure have at least three more babies.

4.- I’m a professional painter and printmaker. Quilting and crafting came two years ago as I felt overwhelmed by motherhood…a normal feeling for the stay-home moms. Let’s no criticize please.

5.- I always try to be very well organized but the daily routine and my priorities (my fairies) always put off my plans of being a neat person. And that’s ok too.

6.- I take naps.

7.- I love to eat super hot and spicy food.

Sunday stash.

 

Hi! This is my first Sunday stash.  I've been keeping this combination for a few months not being able to start a quilt with it, greens are quite a challenge for me... I think this stash needs a bit of pink to make the greens more vibrant. I really don't pay much attention to the designer's names, I just go by colors and by what at the moment catches my eyes.

Cookies !!

 

This is our second batch of cookies. They are double chocolate cookies, and they are delicious. We found the recipe in this book that Clara brought from school. We always substitute ingredients (due to food allergies and intolerance,) which makes our baked goods taste like dietetic food; but not these cookies. These cookies will be great as Christmas gifts...

 

How about I pack them into these tin cans?  I got a bunch of them for $2.00 each. Sweet.

The first batch were "Mexican almond cookies." The cookies turned out flat, and tasted like pure fat.

I want to try...

 

this recipe next, but that is not up to me.

Getting ready...

These are some of the things I've been working on for the upcoming Holidays. I still don't know what goes to the TKF Store and what goes to family and friends...Take a look.

I made two of these.

I'm also working on my five year old upcoming birthday, laundry, and some embroidery on the side. Miss Clara brought home a cook book and she wants to try some baking too.

Life is good, and I'm trying to enjoy it.

Recycled.

Look at this !! I made it myself. The funny thing is that this dress (or tunic) looked like this in it's previous life:

 

Jose's gently worn t-shirt. How did I make it?

 

I traced this sweater dress on top of the t-shirt taking into account that I wanted my new dress to be more ample that the yellow dress.

 

I cut it and pinned it all together...

  

I just eyeballed the neck line, cut half way through the neck line and then folded it over to make the exact same cut on the other half of the neck line.

 

From the highest part of the sleeves (the part of the shoulders) I cut two equal pieces to make the ruffles that go on the shoulders of the dress.

 

And I cut the remaining of the sleeves into four equal stripes to make the ruffle at the bottom of the dress.

 

I made it in record time: one nap, and an extra hour at night after the girls went to bed. I wore it this past weekend and I loved it. There are many good things about this dress: it was made from a shirt that I recycled, it did not cost me a dime, it fits me perfectly, and this dress also hides my "empty baby house" as the lady at angry chicken calls it. But what really makes it special is my three year old telling me if I can make one for her so we can be twin sisters.

I'm off to start hers.

Give away !!!

The sky has turned grey and we’re having our first snow here in Michigan. I feel like snuggling inside the house with a warm drink and a fat-full muffin…The holidays are getting closer, and because of that I decided to work a bit harder than usual in my stuff . I can’t believe we are only 45 days away from Christmas !!! And since Christmas is the season for giving and receiving I have decided to have a “GIVE AWAY.” I’m giving away this tote made by me.

The game: since the cold weather is getting to us, leave me a comment about your favorite drink to warm yourself up; or to cool yourself down if you live in a warmer part of the planet. Coffee, tea, hot cocoa, specialty coffee, cocktail, etc.

Kitchen poetry

Simple sparrow invited her readers to join in her kitchen poetry. As I said before, we live our days in this kitchen. My three girls and the kitchen... you know...the three kitchen fairies. I think this is a good opportunity to talk about a special time when the girls get home after school.

 

"La hora de tomar la leche" ( or time to drink your milk) is the moment when my girls are finally back home from school. We seat at the kitchen table with three cups of milk, (someone may ask for juice)one coffee for me and some cookies or cracker. Sometimes we have an apple cake. Right at that moment everyone starts talking about their days. Who were their playmates, what the teacher said that day, who was sent to the principal's office, what they had learned during their day, etc. It's is glorious for me to see how much they have grown, to see how the can express themselves. Their individuality and strenghts are still concepts that are hard for me to grasp. They are my babies...

And Monday through Friday at the same time I rejoice with their stories and their conversation. What a wonderful place the kitchen is...Why don't you try some "Kitchen Poetry"? Thank you Toni for sharing the kitchen joy.

She's afraid of ice cream...

 

I have this little girl, she has food allergies. Last summer I accidentally  fed her ice cream with eggs, and she had an allergic reaction. We both went crazy... she was so nervous and scared of the epipen. I did not know if I would have to rush her to the emergency room. Thank goodness, the antihistaminic did the trick and she did not had anaphylaxis. Tonight she refused to finish her ice cream for desert. She said she is scared of ice cream. It breaks my heart...what we had was an accident . Her health issues take a lot of our attention; without realizing it she is the one that gets all of the hand made clothing from me. I made her this skirt last weekend.

Double sided baby pants.

 

A friend of mine asked me if I could make something special for a couple of friends of hers that recently had their babies. These is what I came up with. Double sided baby pants with matching t-shirts.

I never made boys clothing,and I'm love with them. While I worked on them, I was also playing in my mind with the idea of a baby boy. It really doesn't matter if I just fantasize because in real life an other baby is a big no-no.

   

I also made this girly-girl set. They are 18 months to 2T, good for next spring or fall.
