Three Kitchen Fairies

This week...

The last couple of nights I've been somehow productive in the crafts' department. I made these two cosmetic pouches. The one in the back was given as a farewell gift to my daughters' violin teacher. She's moving away from us to get her master's degree.  It's just a small gesture compared with how thankful we're for a good year of violin lessons. She was really patient with them, very understanding of their moods. Still, she found the way to make them learn and enjoy their music. My girls love her so much, we sure will miss her.

The other pouch in shades of orange is for a  lovely friend. She never looks here so it still be a surprise... I hope. The pattern is from theI Love Patchwork! book.

Last Sunday I celebrated my 36th birthday. We made this cake yesterday just because on Sunday we spent my day going to fun places like this, and this, and we ran out of time. I feel very fortunate to have such a lovely family, who think that every birthday of mine is a big deal.  

Ambivalente lil' hedgehogs.

I'm still working in the quilt from my last post. While waiting for my order of Kona fabric I decided to work on an embroidery part of my quilt, the one that has my daughters' hands on it.

 
I found this cute paper piecing pattern and I decided to make a few to add to this embroidery to make it 25'' by 12.5''

Lil' hedgehog three. 

Ooops! they're still missing their little eye! Anyway, as cute as they look they are quite difficult to make. The pattern has lots of angles and many pieces, which caused me lots of un-stitching. But I love, love the result. Then I set them next to the embroidered hands, and under, and to the left, and they didn't work! The look like the hands will get pricked if they touch the hedgehogs, just as ambivalent as a hedgehog itself... Back to point A. The good thing is that they do fit in my row of flying geese. So not everything is lost.

Little by little another quilt top is being made. This time with my beautiful blocks from two swaps: 3 X 6 bee, and my "hoop up" embroidery blocks.

This will turned out to be another sampler quilt. I added borders to the embroidery pieces to make then 12.5inches, and I also made a few extra blocks to make it big enough for naps and cuddling up with it. 

 
In the past I've made this cheaters 8 point star for other people, and I really loved it.  So why not, I made an extra one for this project... 

It has a bit of everything: I even included a wagon wheel block left over from this quilt, and an embroidery of my girls' hands that I still need to work a bit to make it more interesting than just their hands. I've been testing different lay outs for it, and so far what may work best for it is sashing the whole thing;  therefore, I ordered some Medium Pink Kona Solids. Those Kona Solids have been appearing on my mail box for different quilting bees, and I just couldn't resist, they are so beautiful.

First of all, I want to thank you for your encouraging words on my last post. They truly mean the world to me. I’m the kind of girl that tries to keep the drama at the lowest level possible in my blog, and in real life. Believe me, I go through life like everything is a fairytale, but obviously it’s not. I just needed to let it out…a big hug to you.

Moving on, last night I cleaned and re-arranged my blog. I didn’t notice some of my buttons were outdated, as well as my bio. The last time I updated my play list was in 2008, sorry! It must have been dreadful to come to my blog and listen to the same music.

I used the “genius” thingy in ITunes, and came up with a list of good songs that are more or less in the same style; well, that’s what the function is for.

I added them to my blog list and there: I have new music.

Disappointment

 

Not my usual post, not a crafty thing, but still I need to let it out.

I was driving my way back home from the grocery store. There was the talking of my girls in the background , and the music was a bit loud. Still, I was finally able to put these feelings into words, a mixture of feelings and emotion that have been making me choke here and there.

We’ve been struggling during the last couple of years with what I think has been one of the biggest and most bothersome problems of my adult life. The kind of problem that can throw a great marriage out the window. Being smart not necessarily means being perfect. Intelligence not necessarily saves you for making mistakes, after all we’re humans. You risk some, you win some, or maybe none at all. Blame it on anything, or everything, blaming won’t fix the problems that’s why we didn't choose to follow this path.

Our problem was there, and we had to fix it, but how… it was during these difficult times that we got to realize that we weren’t alone. Along the ride there were friends and family that hold our hand, and literally pulled us out of the hole. Still, I came face to face with reality, and found out that some links were weak, or merely didn’t exist at all.

The storm has passed. We proved the world that we, as a couple, are as strong as can be. Now, it’s time to take a deep breath, and re-built. I have no hard feelings, or maybe I do. I’ll clear my mind, come to terms with myself and my conclusions. The disappointment will eventually wear out.

Good days

I was looking for some ideas for a pincushion for the Scrappy Pincushion Swap. I looked for quotes, all sorts of them: peace quotes, love quotes, inspirational quotes. Until I found this one under "sewing and quilting quotes." The author is unknown, but still it was simple and truthful.

I added the "scrappy" part, and some little flowers to make it extra special...and tada!! a scrappy pincushion was born. I also made this, but it got instantly swapped for some goodies. I hope my partner likes it.
