Just a quick post to let you know this, my blog, was featured at Be @ Home. The Best of the Web. From my little pincushion...to a big comfy cushion. I had one of those moments of excitment in which I felt I wanted to try a new idea. I spent sometime drawing the pattern, and it was worth! My first try didn't come the way I wanted, I decided to persist. I love the out come, and they love it even more. Now "it" belongs in my studio where they can comfortably seat, and spend time either talking, or reading, or just seating by their mom.
This big cushion was made of recycled shirts, thrifted doilies, and some fabric from my stash.

One of my goals for the first weeks of fall is to get done with two quilt tops that I've been sewing for the last six months. This week I finished this yellow and pink quilt top. It was made with blocks from quilting bees, and some embroidery pieces from the Hoop Up Stitch and Send swap. These two swaps happened almost simultaneously for me. As the embroidery pieces and the blocks arrived, I selected a bunch of them to be turned into a quilt. I made extra blocks [accordingly] to add a variety of color, and to add to its size too. At some point this was a square quilt top, I decided to add more fabric at the top and bottom to make it into a twin size quilt; which I think are a better choice as we used them more than the small quilts.
Let me tell you that as usual I found it terribly difficult to take a good picture of it. I must have taken at least thirty something pics. in the quest for one good one, which made me decide to choose one that was just good enough. The good thing is that the more difficult it gets the more I have to study my camera, and its instruction book, as well as the web to fine how to change the ISO, and the AF, and all that stuff. On the other hand the weather is not helping much either.
I want to thank all the lovely ladies who made a part of this quilt: rebeccasrags, always inspired, seaferncottage, lizzi whiz, isaacmama,smoochee, The Sometimes Crafter, quiltingkimmie. And Spiced Coffee for the lovely extra-fat quarters that I used for this project. Thank you also to the organizers of these super cool swaps, as well as the swap mamas. Big hug to all of you!

Long ago I started making embroidery patterns. This fall I'll try to catch up on that department, and list some for sale at my store, and some others to give away as freebies. This one is listed on my etsy store to be sold as PDF file. I hope you like it.

We had a great first week of school. It felt really good to have time to myself. I also felt happy for them to be back at school, and pleased that my youngest was comfortable with her new routine.
The weekend came upon us with rainy weather, and one sick little girl with a cold. We decided to make a stuffie from "The Cute Book" . It was so fun that we ended up with four; even my husband, and my five-year-old got to work a few stitches here and there. I enlarged the patterns 200%, this way it was easier for the girls to stitch. I got this book for my nine year old last year. If you ever wonder about a good craft book for your children, I highly recommend this one.

Last summer I went to a small quilt exhibit right here in downtown Ann Arbor. The exhibit was at a historic house that only opens on weekends and by appointment. My friend and I were astonished by the beauty of all these totally handmade quilts from the 1800's and early 1900's. The person in charge told us little stories about the quilts but the bottom line was that the were showing them because they didn't have any other thing to show, like this quilts weren't a big deal.
They had three or four of these crazy quilts from the 1800's. Totally hand pieced!! Many of the quilt were donated to this historic organization.
Desdren plates quilt, the stitching was impeccable. I was really surprised by the variety of the fabrics, wondering if the maker planned for it or if it was made with any available fabric.
Does this count as "desdren plate"? It has the all names of the people living in the little town where the quilt was made.
A log cabin. The maker of this quilt didn't stop at the border, a total labor of love.
A couple of quilt tops. Wouldn't you say that some of these fabrics look like Liberty fabrics??
And for the hexies lovers' ...I have to try this someday.

Their first day of school was great for all of us. I felt so excited as they got home to tell me all about their day. It was a bit awkward for me to be all by myself for so many hours; I felt like off balance... Today I'm trying to be productive in the crafts department. Just for starters, I'll be working on a new embroidery pattern. I already drew three of them, and I hope to get them done soon. By the way, one of the patterns will be a freebie. Stay tune!!

The last ten years have been such a delightful decade. I dedicated my whole self to this amazing adventure of being a mom. I invented so many days with special activities for my three girls: a craft, a trip to the museum or to a farm. A special meal, baking days, library trips, playgroups and play dates. We had wonderful family vacations and also nothingness days for doing nothing special just being with each other. They learned to walk and to talk, to count, to write, to read, to jump rope, to swim, to take turns, and to be good sisters among other things. I learned to love them just the way they're, to love me just the way I'm. I also learned to be patient, to listen, to think before I speak, and to be playful too. We arranged for private times... the list of things we did can go on and on. It's not like I'm done with it, it's just that today is beginning of a new episode in my life. My three girls are school-age kids now, and for the first time in ten years I'm home alone.
It's so quiet here...
I specially want to say thank him, for being such an amazing partner, and a wonderful father, and for never opposing to my decision of being a stay home mom.
