Today I'm posting as part of Amy's Blogger's Quilt Festival. Thank you for visiting my blog as part of your blog hopping, and thank you Amy for organizing such a amazing festival. It certainly is a good chance to get to know some talented quilters and their amazing quilts.

El post de hoy es parte de Blogger's Quilt Festival, un festival de quilts interactivo que solo sucede en la internet gracias Amy Ellis de Amy's Creative Side . Gracias Amy por organizar este fantástico festival, es una manera hermosa de conocer a muchas quilteras muy talentosas y de ver sus hermosos trabajos.

Some of you may already read a post or two about this quilt long ago, but for those who haven't let me tell you a bit about my entry for this festival. I made this quilt at the beginning of this year when we move to Argentina from Michigan. When I first knew we were moving I got nervous thinking that I would not be able to keep making quilts and quilty things around there. Oh my goodness!! I thought to myself; I learned such a beautiful craft, I'm sew-in-love with it, and won't be able make quilts anymore!! Can you imagine yourself in this position?!? Living in the US was really easy to get everything I needed to make a quilt, but if you live far away from one of those countries where quilting is so popular, you'll find out that there is no tools or those beautiful quilters' cotton fabrics to make a traditional quilt. I felt somehow spoiled by the easyness to find everything so handy.

 Algunas de ustedes ya han leído sombre el quilt de círculos que hice a principio del año, para aquellas que no lo han visto, déjenme contarles un poco acerca de el quilt con el que estoy participando en este festival. Hice este quilt al pricipio del año, justo cuando nos mudamos de Michigan para Argentina. Cuando me enteré que nos mudabamos creí que no iba apoder hacer mas quilt. Oh no!! pensaba: aprendí esta hermosa manualidad que me encanta y no voy a poder hacerlo más!! Se pueden imaginar que les pase a ustedes?? Viviendo en EEUU es muy fácil conseguir todo para hacer un quilt, pero si vives en un lugar donde quilting no es parte de su tradición, es casi imposible encontrar todas la herramientas para hacer un quilt de la manera tradicional. La verdad que me sentía un poco malcriada después de tener todo lo que necesitaba tan a la mano.

I took the oportunity to make this quilt without the basic tools as a way learn how would it be not to have those 'special' tools. What if I don't have a rotary cutter, or a quilting ruler, or a cuttting mat. What if my sewing machine doesn't have a free motion setting? Would I get the same results, will I still love it? The idea came to me when I had the pleasure met Pat Bravo at quilt market. As you may know, she's from Argentina. We were talking about the lack of quilting tools on this side of the world. She was also very generous to share these beautiful AGF fabrics with me.

 Usé esta oportunidad para hacer un quilt sin las herramientas básicas, tratando de ponerme en la situación de quienes quieren disfrutar de hacer un quilt y no tienen esas herramietas especiales. Qué pasa si uso un “cutter”, o un tapete especial para cortar, o las reglas todas marcadas en pulgadas? Y si mi máquina de coser no tuviese lo que en inglés llaman “free motion”? Tendré los mismo resultados, me seguirá gustando el quilting?? La idea me vino a la cabeza cuando tuve el placer de conocer a Pat Bravo en Quilt Market. Tal vez saben que ella es originaria de Argentina y justamente hablábamos de la indisponibilidad de estas herramientas en este lado del mundo. Así fue que Pat Bravo generosamente, me obsequió estas telas hermosas producidas por su compañía de telas AGF.

It turns out that, it's possible to love the making of a quilt even when the traditional tools are not at reach. I myself designed this quilt. It measures, 60” by 80” aproximately. The circles were hand applique, you can see the tutorial here. The backing is a bed sheet. I embellished it repeating the circles with stitches in the negative spaces. Although I could have quilted the whole thing by hand, I quilted it with waving lines from side to side using my conventional sewing machine.

Resultó que “si se puede”!! Que me encantó hacer casi todo este quilt a mano y sin herramientas de quilting. Yo misma diseñe este quilt. Mide 1.50 mt. por 1.70 mt. Los círculos fueron cosidos uno por uno a mano, el tutorial está acá. La parte de atrás es una sábana. Le agregué puntadas decorativas imitando los círculos de tela en los espacios negativos. Finalmente lo acolché usando mi máquina de coser convencional aunque lo puede haber acolchado a mano.

What I love about this quilt is that I learned that no matter where we live there's always a chance to make a quilt, as long as I have thread, needle, scissors, and some fabric of course. Now, I know so. I posted all the details of this quilt (click on quilting under categories) as a way to encourage people who like me don't have a LQS around the corner but still want to learn about quilting.

Lo que más me gusta de este quilt es que tengo la certeza de que mientras tenga aguja, hilo, tijeras y algo de tela y sin importar donde esté, siempre tendré la oportunidad de hacer un quilt. Eso lo sé!! Mientras hice este quilt fuí agregando todos los detalles de su confección a mi blog a manera de animar a otra gente que quiere hacer quilts pero que no tiene una tienda de quilting o dichas herramientas a mano. A Halloween table topper/ Un mantelito de Halloween

When I finished the tutorial from the last post, I realize I can still make a little something out of the little scraps still left. Desdren plates have always been a favorite of mine and I always wanted a circular table topper. I quickly made a template, and I started cutting the spokes. In one peaceful Sunday afternoon I got to finished the whole thing. 

Al terminar el tutorial de hace un par de días, me dí cuenta que todavía tenía tela para un proyectito más. El desdrén siempre ha sido uno de mis patrones preferidos aparte de que siempre había tenido ganas hacer de un mantelito redondo. De volada me hice un molde y empecé a cortar los rayos y en una tarde tranquila de domingo acabé el proyectito completo.

It measures 20 in. in diameter, part was machine quilted and part hand quilted, not that I quilted it a lot... The hardest part was the binding. I try to make some of that continuos binding but it didn't work, so it's far from perfect. Next time I won't try to get a shortcut and I will decently cut my bias pieces one by one.

Mide 20" de diámetro, el acolchado es parte a máquina y parte a mano, tampoco es que tiene mucho acolchado... La parte mas difícil fue el biés, traté de hacer un biés continuo pero no me salió muy bien. La próxima vez cortaré mis tiras una por una como corresponde en vez de tomar atajos.

The best part is that it was aproved by the girls who are anxiously waiting to make some Halloween cupcakes to share with their friends.

Lo mejor de todo es que fué aprobado por la chicas quiene esperan ansiosas el momento de hacer unos cupcake con tema de Halloween para compartir con las amigas.

Can you tell I had a great time making this Halloween bunting?? It was a very easy and rewarding project. I took lots of pictures along the process. I don't know how I found the time to edit them and turn them into a tutorial. I actually made two tutorials: one in English and one in Spanish, both of them include the template for the flags of the bunting. 

The girls were really happy to find this bunting on their bedroom wall. They say it feels homey to have their American celebrations at home. Now they're looking forward to next month's turkey dinner. I have no clue where I'm going to get them a turkey!

Por la cantidad de fotos que puse esta vez podría decirse que la pasé bien haciendo esta guirnalda de Halloween y así fue. Tomé muchas fotos del proceso y no sé como logré escribirles un tutorial. En realidad escribí dos tutoriales: uno en inglés y otro en español, los dos incluyen el molde para las banderitas de la guirnalda. 

Las niñas se pusieron muy contentas de encontrar este detallito colgado de la pared de su habitación. Dicen que se siente rico poder celebrar estas fiestas como antes. Ahora ya están planeando la cena de acción de gracias; de dónde voy a sacar un pavo en pleno noviembre??

Cupcake party, the remake/ Re-diseñando "Cupcake Party"

"Cupcake Party" is the second embroidery pattern I added to my etsy store in 2010, 2010?!?! Wow, it's being a while!! 

Couple of days ago, I was looking at this pattern and lots of ideas came to mind. I decided I want to remake this pattern. Let's see how it goes...

In the meantime, my "Cupcake Party" embroidery pattern will be available for a few more days to be changed for its new version. 

"Cupcake Party" es mi segundo patrón de bordado. Lo agregué a mi tienda etsy en el 2010, 2010?!?! Hace mucho tiempo ya!!

Estudiaba este patrón el otro día y tuve muchas ideas que me encantaría agregar. Así que decidí hacerle unos cuantos cambios. A ver como sale...

Mientras tanto, este bordado está disponible por unos días más para después ser remplazado por una versión nueva del mismo patrón. 

No Halloween for us??

As much as I try to ignore the fact that people don't celebrate Halloween around here (at least not the way it's celebrated in the Michigan,) I can't get over the fact that there will be no costumes, no trick or treating. We were just talking about it over dinner when he said it still should be fun to hang Halloween decorations and to have some sort of celebration with girls' friends, and the neighborhood kids just as a way to share... who we are.

Durante los últimos días he tratado de ignorar el hecho de que acá no se celebrar Halloween o noche de brujas, al menos no de la manera que celebrábamos en Michigan. No me acostumbro a la idea de que no habrán disfraces, ni saldremos a pedir caramelos. El otro día hablábamos sobre este asunto a la mesa y él nos dijo que no había porque dejar de poner las decoraciones de Halloween y que sería lindo invitar a los amiguitos de la chicas a celebrar Halloween y así compartir con ellos parte de lo que hacemos, de quienes somos.

It isn't hard to embrace these kind of American celebrations after living in Michigan for so long, and after starting my beautiful family there. If we forget about the commercial part of it (not that there's anything wrong with that,) these kind of celebrations bring people together, and the whole thing revolves around the children who enjoy it the most. I love it!!

Es complicado pasar por alto este tipo de fiestas después de haber vivido tantos años en Michigan y haber empezado esta hermosa familia en el mismo lapso de tiempo. Si nos olvidamos un poco de la parte comercial (que tampoco tiene nada de malo) este tipo de celebraciones unen a la gente haciendo que toda la fiesta revolotee alrededor de los niños quienes son los que más lo disfrutan. Me encanta el Halloween!!

Monday/ Lunes

Monday again. I'm not the kind of person that complains about Mondays. Actually, I love Mondays!!

I start my Mondays savoring the memories of a lovely, and peaceful weekend.

It's a day to plan the whole week ahead, sewing projects included.

I also plan the dishes, breads, and goodies this family will nurture from. 

... and as if all weren't enough, spring is here and the dryness we were experiencing during winter time has changed into a green scenery of scented jasmine bush trees.

Lunes otra vez. No soy el tipo de persona que se queja acerca del lunes. Al contrario, me encantan los lunes!!

Empiezo mi lunes recordando todo lo que hicimos durante nuestro hermoso y tranquilo fin de semana. Es el día que planeo mi semana, incluyendo mi proyectos de costura. También planeo los platillos, los panes, las cositas ricas que alimentaran a esta familia.

... Y si como todo esto no fuera suficiente, acá es primavera y la sensación de sequedad en el aire ha cambiado por un paisaje verde con aroma a jasmines.

Sew it! / Cose!!

Sometimes I wish I have someone telling me to just stop what I'm doing to sew the same way children demand their 'important' stuff. The good thing is that last night Iwas able to start sewing my broken dishes blocks. I'm chain piecing them so they're mostly halves. I think it's not going to take very long to have this quilt top done.

A veces quisiera tener alguien que me mandara a coser inmediatamente de la misma manera con la que los hijos demandan que sus necesidades sean cubiertas. Anoche pude avanzar un poco con estos bloques (broken dishes) Los estoy cosiendo en cadena, así que ahora son mayormente mitades de bloque. Creo que este quilt top no me va a tomar mucho tiempo más para ser acabado.

Thinking big, kind of a remake./ Pensando en grande.

I finished a new pillow a few days ago. I actually finished it last week but since it has been overcast for the last 6 days I was not able to take a picture decent enough.  

I really don't know why but my pictures have been kind of fussy lately. I've changed the lense, the ISO; I try different setting... do cameras need to be taken to the shop for maintenace once in while??

Any way, this is my finished project from last week. It'll stay on a little girl's bed, who promised me not to let it stay on the floor, fingers crossed...

Terminé este almohadón hace días, más bien hace una semana pero como ha estado muy lluvioso los últimos seis días no había podido tomar una foto que me quedara medianamente bien. Ultimamente mis fotos han estado saliendo borrosas. Ya cambié el lente, cambié es ASA; intenté con diferentes funciones y nada... será que debo llevar mi cámara a que le den mantenimiento??? 

En fin, este es mi projecto de la semana pasada, es para la cama de una de las chicas quien prometió que no lo dejará tirado en el suelo, ojalá y así sea...

I got this cute Sarah Jane fabric long ago in an intent to have some fabrics on my stash. Blue is not my favorite color but I kind of knew that at some point I'd be craving some blue fabric. I was right. The dots are a Michael Miller's fabric, the bias is a DS Quilt Collection, and the embroidery pattern is one of my own: "Thinking Big"

Compré esta tela de Sarah Jane hace tiempo en un intento de agregarle un poco de azul a mi colección de telas. El azul no es de mis colores favoritos pero sabía que en algún momento iba a estar deseando tener algo de azul para combinar con otros colores y así fue. La tela de puntos es de Michael Miller, el biés es DS Quilt Collection y el bordado es uno de mis propios patrones: "Thinking big."

A pretty cake/ Un lindo pastel

Last Friday we had a birthday, my oldest turned 12.

It feels as it was yesterday when she was a baby. This is the cake I was able to bake for her; I'm showing it to you because I feel really accomplished since I've been trying for so many years coming up with an [awesome] homemade, egg free, birthday cake. This girl of mine is allergic to eggs...

El viernes pasado mi hija mayor cumplió 12 años. Parece que fue ayer cuando apenas era una bebé. Este es el pastel de cumpleaños que le hice. Se los muestro porque me sentí realizada después de tratar por años de hacer un pastel de cumpleaños [lindo] casero y sin huevos ya que mi hija es alérgica a los huevos.

It's eeg free chocolate cake, with dulce de leche filling, and Wilton's buttercream icing. I made the tiny bunting out of scraps, cute, huh!?! She picked the icing color. She was very happy with her cake and her birthday celebration. 

Es un pastel de chocolate con relleno de dulce de leche y el betún es una receta de Wilton's. Le hice la tirita de banderines con retacitos de tela, lindo, no?!?! Ella escogió el color del betún. Estuvo feliz con su pastel y su celebración de cumpleaños.

Embroidery + quilting/ Bordado + quilting

I was going through my stash of fabrics the other day, and I found some of finished embroidery pieces. Most of the patterns available at my etsy store are just that embroidery pieces. I thought it was a shame that there weren't part of something we can use around the house. 

Repasaba mis telas cuando me encontré algunos de mis bordados. La mayoría de los patrones de bordado que tengo en mi etsy son solo eso, bordados terminados pero sin ninguna función especial. Me pareció que era realmente una lástima que no fueran parte de algo útil y de uso diario.

Looking through some quilting books I found an interesting pattern called "Robbing Petter to pay Paul." I'm usually very impulsive when picking a quilting block. This time I decided I better sketch the block carefully so that I can see different lay outs and pick I like the best. 

Me encontré un patrón de quilting muy interesante: "Robbing Peter to pay Paul" algo así como Robándole a Peter para pagarle a Paul... usualmente soy muy impulsiva y cuando encuentro un proyecto que me gusta lo quiero hacer ya. Esta vez me tomé el tiempo de estudiar las posibilidades y de ver cual era la que más me gustaba.

The result is this block. It measures 18.5" and I'm going to make a new pillow. 

El resultado fue este bloque, mide 18.5" por lado y será parte de un almohadón.
