I
had 21 or 22 drunkard path blocks. I spent some time looking at them,
arranging them in different ways.
Tenía 21 o 22 bloques de drunkard teminados, los veía, los pensaba, los acomodaba de diferentes maneras.
I cut them a bit, they measure
5.5”. I sewed them in rows of four, and I quilted it with wavy
lines. In the end it turned out to be a pillow. The front was made with Kona Solids. The fabric I used is from may "baking fabric" stash. The binding is Joel Dewberry's Ribbon Lattice in Gold.

Now it seats along side my other two favorite, favorite pillows on my bed.
Ahora está puesto en nuestra cama junto con otros dos de mis cojines favoritos.
I
unpuggled a bit from most social media. I get the feeling I get badly
absorbed by it sometimes. Not that I “talk” a lot there but I
love reading blogs, and looking at all the pictures in Instagram. I
actually did pretty well. I signed up at our local gym, and I've
being exercising every single morning. It feels good. I did lots of
cleaning and reading, I finished a few UFOs. I also
started a few more sewing/embroidery projects.
Me desconecté un poco de los medios sociales en la internet. Tenía la sensación de estar pasando ya demasiado de mi tiempo ahí. No es que hable con mucha gente pero si me encanta leer blogs y ver fotos en Instagram. Les soy sincera, la pasé muy bien. Me inscribí en un gimnasio y fuí toda la semana, riquísimo! Hice mucha limpieza, leí mucho también. Tuve tiempo de terminar algunos proyectos incompletos y empezar un par más.
One
of my finished projects is my South American quilt. After looking for
the fringe that I wanted for the edge of the quilt at different
notions stores, I couldn't find anything that convinced me, and if
there was something that I like, they didn't have enough of it. The
quilting was a bit complicated. I wished for a dense quilting, but
not too dense; I needed it to be somehow dense to keep the aguayo
squares from fraying. Before quilting it, I added six more blocks to
the quilt. I felt it needed some resting spots, or blocks with more
neutral/peaceful colors. I also added a little pocket. I placed it at
the top. If used on a bed, the little pocket will be right
under the pillow.
Uno de los proyectos que terminé fue mi quilt Sudamericano. No pude encontrar las tira de bolitas que quería ponerle. La busqué en varias mercerías, algunas no la tenían y las que si tenían, no tenían suficiente. El acolchado se me complicó un poco, queria un acolchado denso pero no muuuuy denso. Necesitaba que quedara denso para que no se me deshilacharan los cuadraditos de aguayo. Aparte le agregué seis bloques más en colores más apagaditos, me pareció que estaba muy estridente. Uno de los bloques tiene un bolsillo chiquito. Ese bloque quedó en la parte de arriba del quilt, si lo usamos en una cama, el bolsillito secreto quedará justo debajo de la almohada.
I
ended up using some grey polka dot fabric for the binding, I like how
it looks.

el quilt con un biés gris de lunares blancos, me parece que le va
bien.
This
week I have five or six different projects going on at the same time.
None of them are ready to be shared yet.

I've
been juggling my time between my sewing projects, and taking care of
the people I love. There's lots of changes and plans waiting to
happen. In the meantime, I'll leave you with some random things that
are part of my daily/weekly routine that you most likely may not
know.
Por muchas razones no me he podido concentrar por mucho en ninguno de ellos, he estado dividiendo mi tiempo entre mis proyectos y mi gente a la que tanto amo. Se nos vienen muchos cambios y muy pronto! así que el tiempo se me achica y no me rinde. Mientras tanto les dejo una lista de cosas que pasan en mi rutina diaria o semanal, cosas que algunos de ustedes tal vez no sepan de mí.
I
bake our own bread almost every week.
I
love cooking. I focus a lot in vegetarian meals. “Eat your
veggies” is rarely said here, the fight here is against meats of
any sort. I think I should have a cooking blog as well; believe me,
I'll have much more material to write and to post about.
I
want to learn how to make preserves and jams. I have the books, the
jars. I'm still looking for pectin. And I have to find the right
time.
I
finished reading "Memoirs of a geisha," and started reading "Fifty
shades of Grey." I just started it, I hope I don't regret posting this at some point... BTW the name of
the main character is so cheesy.
Everyone
plays a musical instrument in this house. I'm the lousiest at it
just because I don't practice enough. I play the ukelele, at least I try. But my new
love is cajon Peruano.
Horneo el pan de mi familia casi todas las semanas.
Me encanta cocinar. Me enfoco mucho en comida vegetariana, acá nunca decimos “cómete tus vegetales” aca la lucha es contra las carnes de cualquier especie. Si tuviese un blog de cocina tendría muchísimo material para compartir...
Me encantaría aprender ha preparar conservas y mermeladas. Tengo los libros, los frascos; todavía estoy buscando el pectín, solo me falta encontrar el tiempo.
Me encanta leer. Terminé “Memorias de una geisha” y empecé “Cincuenta sombras de Grey”, lo acabo de empezar, asi que espero no sentirme avergonzada de habeles contado esto... por cierto, el nombre de la protagonista me parece un tanto ridículo.
En esta casa todos tocan un instrumento musical. Yo soy la peor de todos porque nunca practico. Mi instrumento es el ukelele y mi nueva pasión es el cajón Peruano.
I'm
developing a new passion for blue fabrics that's I never experienced
before. It's not hard when some Liberty fabrics are at play.
I
love red wines. We've been trying all sorts of malbecs this year.
Our favorite so far: Saint Felicien. I assure you you won't be
dessapointed if you get to try it.
I,
most definitely, am a cold weather person. Extreme hot weather just drives
me nuts!
Estoy
desarrollando un gustito por las telas azules que antes no me
llamaban la atención; lo cual no es muy difícil cuando las telas
son de Liberty.
Me
encantan los vinos tintos. Este año hemos probado muchos vinos
malbec. Nuestro favorito hasta ahora es el Saint Felicien. Les
aseguro que si lo prueban les va a encantar.
Por
último, les cuento que definitvamente prefiero el clima frío. El
calor excesivo me desespera!
Another
quilt is coming along, it's another twin size. I get the feeling that
my smaller quilts don't get much use just because they're samller
than a twin size. They usually stay in the closets and only come out
in winter time to be used on the sofa. I think that's sad. It takes
so much work and love to make a quilt that I much rather have them on
their beds.
Otro quilt está tomando forma, este también es para una cama de una plaza. Usualmente cualquier quilt más pequeño que este se queda guardado en el closet hasta que llega el invierno y es usado solo para acurrucarse en el sofá y me da tristeza que no sea usado del diario. Hacer un quilt toma tanto tiempo y amor que prefiero mil veces más que los quilt que hago se puedan usar diariamente en las camas de la casa.
The
pattern is broken dishes. I used my own tutorial. I made more than 90
blocks (8” by 8” blocks,) all of them chain sewn, kind of mass
produced... After seeing my blocks all nicely lined up on the floor,
I realized that I prefer the old fashion smallish blocks than the big
modern blocks. They take much longer, and lots of dedication, but I
love the visual effect of that many blocks put together.

se llama broken dishes. Seguími propio tutorial e hice noventa y tantos bloques (de 8” por 8”),
todos ellos cosiditos en cadena, como si fuera producción
en masa. Después
de ver todos los bloques acomodaditos en el piso me doy cuenta que
prefiero un quilt de bloques tradicionales, y chiquitos que uno de
bloques grandes y modernos. Toma mucho más
tiempo y dedicación
acabar un quilt tradicional pero el efecto visual de tantos bloques
juntos es hermoso.
I've
been trying to finish this quilt for the last 10 days or so. In
passed weeks I realized it wouldn't take much work to make this quilt
a bit bigger, just big enough to be a twin size quilt. When I spread
it open on a bed, I saw than the aguayo squares were starting to
fray. I freaked out and decided I have to finish it ASAP. I made six
more blocks, I fixed the ones that were reaping appart. I basted it,
and I've been quilting in my 'free' time.
Desde hace un par de semanas que estoy tratando de acabar este quilt, me dí cuenta que no necesitaba mucho para ser un quilt de una plaza (un twin size.) Cuando lo extendí en la cama para ver cuanto le faltaba, ví que los cuadraditos de aguayo se estaban empezando a deshilachar, me alarmé! Este quilt tenía que ser terminado cuanto antes!! Le hice seis bloques más, reparé los que se estaban descosiendo, hice el sadwichito con la parte de atrás y el relleno y empecé ha acolcharlo de a ratitos.
It's
a fact that I desperately need a sewing table like the ones with the
hole in the middle for the sewing machine. One of those tables would
make any quilting project way easier,I'll be adding it to my wish
list. Hopefully, I can find a carpenter to make one like the one I
found in Pinterest.
Definitivamente
necesito una mesa de coser especial, una de esas con un hueco en
medio para meterle la máquina y hacer el acolchado mas fácil.
Agregaré la mesa a mi lista de “cosas que necesito” para
mandarla hacer con algún carpintero. Me gustaría una como esta que
me encontré en Pinterest.

Halloween
came through and went by so fast. I'm happy I was able to enjoy my
children and to entertain a bit for them and their little friends. There
was some of that anti-Halloween feeling in the air as I remember it
was when I was a child growing up in Latina America. We just went with
the flow and enjoyed some orange colored cupcakes with mate, talk
about a mixture of cultural elements.
Halloween vino y se fué rapidito. Aún así tuve tiempo de disfrutarlo y de celebrárselo a las niñas con algunas amiguitas. Había un poco de un sentimiento anti-Halloween en el ambiente, el mismo que recuerdo existía en los años de mi niñez en Latinoamérica. Así que hicimos las cosas sin forzarlo, dejando solo que se diera lo mejor posible. Comimos cupcakes de chocolate con betún anaranjado acompañados con mate.
Due
to our doubts about dressing up, the girls and their friends came up
with some [last minute] vampire costumes plus cat plus Katniss Everdeen (from the
Hunger Games) outfits; the pretend blood (provided by one of the
friends) was a hit as you can see. We took them trick or treating, and
believe it or not they came with a loot that included some fresh
strawberries from the produce corner store.
The same way they celebrated Halloween, they're now all excited about “Dia de Muertos.” The altar is set but I haven't found time for the pictures. You can see a couple of them here and here.
Dada
la duda acerca de disfrazarse o no, las chicas acabaron improvisando
sus disfraces: unas fueron de vampiros, otra de gato y una más se
disfrazó de Katniss Everdeen de los Juegos del Hambre. La sangre
artificial (provista por una de las amigas) fue todo un éxito como
pueden ver. Al final salieron a pedir dulces y para nuestra sorpresa
volvieron hasta con fresas de la verdulería de la esquina.
De
la misma manera que se emocionan celebrando Halloween, se han
entusiasmado con la celebración de Día de Muertos. El altar esta
puesto, pero no he podido tomar muchas fotos. Les puedo mostrar un
