Embroidery brings such nice breaks to my crazy routine, that I simply can deny myself that pleasure.
Hi there, I'm still alive and stitching. Just a quick hello to show your the little bit of embroidery I've been working on. It's a special project that needs to be done before moving.
Me relaja tanto bordar que no puedo negarme pequeños momentos placenteros para un par de puntadas. Hola a todos, sigo viva!! Los saludo rapidito para mostrarles las puntadas que he hecho últimamente. Es un proyecto muy especial que debo terminar antes de irme.
In
order to move to our new destination and with all our duck not quite
in a row, we keep jumping through all the hoops of bureaucracy. I'm
not complaining, it is what it is. Yet, we have been able to manage
a smile in our faces over the strong desire to let the high stress
levels affect us.
Estamos
preparando todo para llegar a nuestro nuevo destino y apenas vamos
logrando hacer un plan medianamente congruente. Seguimos saltando los
obstáculos de la burocracia; no me quejo, ni buena ni mala, es lo
que es. Pero aún asi no hemos dejado que de ponerle buena cara al
plan aunque a veces haya un fuerte deseo de dejarnos llevar por los
altos niveles de estrés.
When
I feel tired of purging, organizing, planning, and packing, I take a
break to take a deep breath. Do you know what relaxes me?? The thought of a new home to live in. It's truly
uplifting to think, and to wish all of those new spaces. Will I have
modern house this time, or a traditional Mexican one? I want a big
kitchen this time!! and a space big enough space to sew and make
crafts. Who knows?!? maybe I'll finally will be able have a pianting
studio. I like painting big paintings, and I also want a printmaking
press at some point. I also wish for a big yard with a pool. This was
the first time we had a house with a pool, and we loved it.
Cuando
estoy cansada de revisar, organizar, empacar, desechar, me tomo unos
minutos y respiro profundo.Saben
como me distraigo? Me pongo darle vueltas a la idea de un nuevo
hogar. Me llena de buena onda pensar en los nuevos espacios en los
que sucederán nuestras vidas. Nos tocará una casa moderna o una
casa tradicional Mexicana esta vez? Me encantaría tener una cocina
enorme y un gran espacio para coser. Quién sabe?? Tal vez por fín
tenga un estudio para pintar. Me gusta pintar obras grandes y me
encantaría tener una prensa de grabado o tórculo como le dicen en
México. También quiero un jardín con alberca para mis hijas. Esta
fue la primera vez que tuvimos una casa con alberca y nos encantó.
Since
we're so busy lately, we have resorted to super quick meals, and easy
meals like sandwiches and salads. Today, I spent a bit more time than
usual to make some “empanadas arabes”. They're a kind of beef turnover from around here, and they're so easy to make, and really yummy. I
even was in the mood for some pictures, and why not writing a quick
recipe to share with you. This is how this goes.
Como
estamos super ocupados últimamente, las comidas han sido
restringidas a cosas sencillas como ensaldas y sandwiches. Hoy me dí
un tiempito en la cocinar y hacerles un cariñito a mi gente. Les
hice empanadas árabes, que son un tipo de empanada que hacen por
estos rumbos. Son facilísimas y bien ricas. Hasta me dí el lujo de
tomar unas cuantas fotitos y porque no; de compartir esta receta con
ustedes. Y va así:
1
kg. (about 2 lb.) of ground beef.
1
medium onion chopped
2
or 3 plum tomatos chopped
1
tb or oregano more or less
the
juice of one big lemon
30 pastry rounds. You can find these at any Latin American market.
salt
to taste
1kg.
(2lb) de carne molida
1
cebolla picada
2
o 3 tomates [perita] picados
1
cucharada de orégano
el
jugo de un limón grande
30 discos para empanada aproximadamente
sal
al gusto
Mix
all the ingredientes minus the pastry rounds and let it rest for one
hr. in the fridge. Pre-heat
the oven at 425 F. degrees (220 C. degrees,) and grease a couple oven heat resistant
pan. Take
one pastry round, place a full spoon of the prepared ground beef, and
fold it as shown in the pictures. Place
your empanadas on the previously greased pan, and bake them for 15
minutes aprox. Or until golden brown.
Easy,
peasy, right?? and they are delicious. Enjoy!!
Mezcla
todos los ingredientes (menos las tapas de empanadas!!) en un
recipiente grande y déjalo reposar por una hora en el refrigerador.
Calienta el horno a 425 grados Farenheit (220 grados Celsius). Engrasa un par de charolas
para el horno.Toma
una tapa de empanada, coloca una cucharada de la carne prepada y
dobla la empana da como te muestro en las fotos. Hornea
tus empanadas por 15 minutos más o menos o hasta que se vean
doraditas. No tardan mucho.
Facilito,
no?? y ricas!! Que las disfruten!!

I
recently received a lovely parcel containing three copies of the
Australian magazine “Inspirations” by Country Bumpkin. This was
my first chance to take a look at this interesting, fine magazine
which tells you more than you can imagine about embroidery in 100
pages of shiny, awesome weight paper with tons of lovely pictures, and
step by step diagrams of embroidery tutorials.
Recientemente
recibí en el correo tres copias de la
publicación australiana “Inspirations”
de la editorial Country Bumpkin. Esta fué
mi primera oportunidad de hojear una revista de bordado con 100
páginas de papel de increíble
calidad con cantidad de fotos hermosas que incluye también
tutoriales diagramados paso a paso.
I
know that there is more to embroidery than our grandmothers embroidery
style, and our lovely online community of embroiderers, and pattern
makers. But looking through out the pages of “Inspirations” I
realized that embroidery is a constant element of expression through
out times and places around the world. Inspirations
goes beyond how-to embroidery projects, it also has interesting
articles that will take you through parts of history, and places in
the world; needle and thread have been such a relevant way of
expression through out time.
Se
que el mundo del bordado va más allá
de los bordados de la abuelita y de nuestra comunidad de bordadoras y
creadoras de patrones on-line y así es.
Mientras leía los artículos
de esta revista, me dí cuenta una vez
más que el bordado ha sido un medio de
expresión a través
de los tiempos y en diferentes espacios culturales. Inspirations va
más allá
de ser una revista de instrucción en
bordado, Inspirations también incluye
interesantes artículos acerca de
bordado en diferentes épocas de la
historia así como en diferentes
contextos culturales, la aguja y el hilo han sido un medio de
expresión muy fuerte a través
del tiempo.
The
tutorials are not about basic embroidery stitches, I'd say it's for
the experienced embroideres looking for more to learn like the
“Porcupine stitch” that totally caught my attention, and I want
to try it out right away.
One
of the projects from the magazine: “The Flame Tree” by Kelly
Fletcher is also a stitch-along on Flickr at this time, intersting
for stitchers who like interacting on line in real time.
I'm
really happy I was chosen to host this giveaway, and that I got to
know this embroidery magazine.

no son precisamente de puntadas básicas
de bordado, yo diría que esta revista
es perfecta para gente con una vasta experiencia en bordado buscando
ampliar sus horizontes. Por ejemplo el “porcupine stitch”
o puntada puercoespín es algo que nunca
había visto y muero de ganas de
intentar!
Entre
los proyectos de esta revista está “The

During
the Holidays, I got a notice saying that I have to fetch some
packages from the mail office. I was very excited, it's hard to get
international mail around here. After two trips to the post office
to find my three packages, I proclaimed my self triumphant for having
my three-long-stranded-in-mail limbo-packages with me. One of my
parcels came all the way from Barcelona, Spain. It was a box full of
goodies from Elena from All my threads. I love each one of the little
things that she packed for me specially this lovely coin purse she
made. Isn't adorable? She also include three more of those closures
for me to make coin purses for my girls. Thank you Elena!!
Durante los días de fiesta me llegó una nota de la oficina de correo para
que pasara a recoger tres paquetes que me habían llegado. Me puse
feliz, recibir correo internacional por acá es todo un evento.
Después de dos vueltas a la oficina del correo volví triunfante con
mis tres paquetes perdidos en el limbo del correo internacional. Uno
de los paquetes vino desde Barcelona, España. Lo mandó mi amiga
virtual Elena de “All my threads”. Me encantó todas las cositas
que me mandó especialmente el monedero de patchwork que ella hizo,
no está divino?!? Elena incluyó unos cuantos más de estos cierres
para hacer monederos para mis niñas. Mil gracias Elena!!

Packagel
#3 is the one I had to beg for, and wait for shifts to change and I
asked again to the next mail person. It was from Deb, her blog is called Work in progress. It came also all the way from Australia. Lovely
Deb made five broken dishes blocks to add to my broken dishes quilt.
We shared our broken dishes stories via e-mail, and we both started these blocks based on my tutorial long
ago. She also included a panel of a lovely fabric. Thank you Deb!! I
can't wait to put my broken dishes blocks together. Isn't our
quilting community amazing?!?!
Para
conseguir el paquete #3 tuve que rogar, esperé al cambio de turno
para pedirlo otra vez al personal de la tarde de la oficina de
correo. El paquete era de Deb, su blog se llama "Work in Progress", una amiga virtual
que vive en Australia. Deb me mandó 5 bloques de “broken dishes”
para agregar a mi quilt del mismo patrón. Deb y yo compartimos nuestras historias de “platos rotos” via e-mail y empezamos a hacer bloques de “broken dishes” basados
en un tutorial que compartí acá en mi blog hace mucho. El paquete
también incluyó un panel de tela hermoso. Mil gracias Deb!! No puedo
esperar para coser todos los bloquecitos juntos!!
Qué increíble nuestra comunidad de quilters, no!?!?!
Enough
with the celebrations! At least the all the Christmas and New Year
celebrations. I feel extremely well rested and excited to start
working on the new projects for this year.
Resolutions??
not as a list or so, for me this year will be about being more
positive, and grateful for the oportunities that I have to keep
growing up. About my sewing projects, I'd just say that my head is
bursting with many ideas to try out, and my sketchbook is also
getting filled with plans for new embroidery patterns, quilts, and
prints (as in printmaking.)
Suficiente
con las festividades! Al menos las de Navidad y Año Nuevo. Estoy
super descansada y con muchas ganas de empezar a trabajar en todos
mis proyectos para este año.
Acerca
de propósitos de año nuevo, tengo algunos pero no en forma de
lista, este año quiero enfocarme en ser más positiva y más
agradecida con las oportunidades que me da la vida y seguir creciendo
a nivel personal. En cuanto a mis costuras y bordados, les cuento que
mi cabeza esta llena de proyectos esperando a materializarse y mi
cuaderno de dibujo también se llena rápidamente de bocetos para
patrones de bordado, quilts y grabados también.
As
family, we're again facing a new adventure. This year we're moving to
a new location, not only a new house or a new city. The 3KF household
is moving to a different country [again,] this time: Mexico!!
A
nivel familiar estamos a punto de empezar una nueva aventura. Este
año nos mudaremos otra vez, no solo de casa, o de ciudad. Esta
familia se muda a otro país [otra vez], esta vez nos vamos a
México!!
Are
we excited? Yes, we are!! I have to be grateful for this oportunity to spend some time in my own country but this time with the whole gang.
I left Mexico 16 years ago to study abroad. We're moving to a
different city from the one I used to live in, so it's kind of new to
me too.
Qué
si estamos contentos? Si lo estamos!! Tengo que estar agradecida por
esta oportunidad de pasar un tiempo en mi propio país pero con toda
la tropa. Dejé México hace 16 años para estudiar en el extranjero
y ahora vuelvo a otra ciudad que no es en la que yo vivía, así que
para mí es todo nuevo otra vez.
From
next month on, this blog will be more about embroidery and
handstitching. My sewing machine will be traveling with the rest of
our stuff in the belly of a big ship to Mexico.
A
partir del mes que viene, mi blog sera más acerca de bordados y
trabajos a mano ya que mi máquina de coser estará otra vez
viajando en la panza de algún buque a México.
