Three Kitchen Fairies

One direction

I’ve been itching to start sewing a new quilt. I got this Timber and leaf bundle by Sarah Watts a couple of months ago, and every now and then I take it out of its bag to pet it and to think about what kind of quilt I want to make. The prints of this collection are so beautiful than I wanted a block that somehow will help me showcase some of the details like the foxes and bears. I chose “birds in the air,” and I started sewing this morning two days ago. I realized that most (if not all) the fabrics are directional fabrics, all the pretty designs are vertically placed which makes it complicated (to me at least) to cut all my triangles in only one direction. I guess I can try my best at placing all the designs vertically but lots of fabric will not go into the quilt if I choose to do so.

What would you do?? Would you mind the direction of the prints??

Moría de ganas de empezar un nuevo quilt. Hace unos meses compré este paquete de tela de Timber and Leaf de Sarah Watts. Por ratos sacaba las telas de su bolsa para admirarla, acariciarla y para pensar en que tipo de quilt me gustaría hacer . Esta colección estan linda que quería que cada bloque mostrara los detalles tan lindos del diseño como los zorros y los osos. Al final escogí, “birds in the air” o pájaros en el aire” y empecé a coser mis bloques esta mañana hace dos días. En el proceso me dí cuenta de la mayoría de las telas de esta colección son direccionales (si no es que todas), todos los elementos están acomodados de manera vertical  lo cual hace complicado cortar triángulos que solo vayan en una dirección. Podría tratar de hacerlo, pero creo que muchos pedacitos de tela quedarían sin ser usados en  mi nuevo quilt si es que decido hacerlo de esta manera.

Qué harían ustedes?? Les importaría la orientación de los diseños??

On a not-so-unrelated note, I want to thank to my friend Patty. She is my kind hearted quilter friend who is letting me borrow one of her sewing machines so that I can sew this quilt, and some other goodies. Thank you Patty!!

New embroidery pattern!!/ Nuevo bordado!!

I’m happy to tell that I finished a new embroidery pattern. The bad part is that my equipment for making it available for sale (scanner, big computer, bamboo tablet) is not here yet. It’s literally in the middle of the ocean traveling my way. Hand in there, time sure will fly and this pattern will be available in no time.

Happy Mother's Day!! Feliz día de la madre!!

I totally forgot how important Mother’s day is here in Mexico!! I was surprise to see so much of a celebration, as well as, flowers stands, and of course Mother’s day festivities at the girls school. Even the Google Doodle for Google Mexico look quite festive.

Había olvidado totalmente que el Día de la Madre se celebra por todo lo alto en México. Me sorprendió tanto la celebración como la cantidad de puesto de flores en las calles y los festejos en la escuela de la chicas. Hasta el Google Doodle tenía que ver con nuestra celebración!!

My dear husband got me two huge sunflower bouquets; they’re beautiful as they are heavy!! He totally took me by surprise.

Mi querido esposo me regaló dos ramos de girasoles tan preciosos como pesados!! Fue totalmente inesperado.
