Sew it! / Cose!!

Sometimes I wish I have someone telling me to just stop what I'm doing to sew the same way children demand their 'important' stuff. The good thing is that last night Iwas able to start sewing my broken dishes blocks. I'm chain piecing them so they're mostly halves. I think it's not going to take very long to have this quilt top done.

A veces quisiera tener alguien que me mandara a coser inmediatamente de la misma manera con la que los hijos demandan que sus necesidades sean cubiertas. Anoche pude avanzar un poco con estos bloques (broken dishes) Los estoy cosiendo en cadena, así que ahora son mayormente mitades de bloque. Creo que este quilt top no me va a tomar mucho tiempo más para ser acabado.

Two things/ Dos cosas

Wow!! Last week was a very busy week for me. I had family visiting, the blog-anniversary giveaway was finally posted along with a little survey that required some thinking, planning and executing. After being a little bit shy about my birthday for years, these year I decided to celebrate it twice: right on Wednesday with family and neighbors, and another celebration on Saturday with some more lovely friends I've made in the last eight months. It was fun but by Sunday I was exhausted.

Wow! La semana pasada estuvo de locos: hice cosas sin parar: tuve familia visitándonos, subí el post del sorteo de aniversario del blog con una encuesta incluída que requirió de tiempo planeándolo y escribiéndolo. Este año, después de haber sido tímida acerca de mi cumple por muchos años, lo celebré dos veces. El día del mi cumple lo celebré con familia y mis vecinos, y después el sábado lo volví a celebrar con amistades muy queridas que con los que he compartido muchos momentos en los últimos ocho meses. Nos divertimos mucho y para el domingo estaba yo exhausta.

I'm finally well rested, and ready to let the creative juices run freely... and to confront my tod-do list as well :P

Hoy, felizmente descansada, me propongo dejar la creatividad volar libremente... y también confrontar la larga lista de cosas por hacer :p

The second thing I have to show you is this yummy bundle of Kona Solid scraps!! I gave the international delivery a try, which can be tricky in this side of the world, and it worked!! I actually thought it was lost but the delivery person told me that the delay (it took three weeks) was caused by a transportation union strike, otherwise it would have been here earlier. Thankfully, I still have enough fabric to sew a few more projects ;) But to tell you the truth, I did it because I needed to know myself before encouraging others to buy, right? 

La segunda cosita que les quiero enseñarles es este paquetito de Kona Solids que me llegó en el correo!! Probé el correo internacional, el cual es todo un tema en este lado del mundo y funcionó. Tomo tres semanas para que llegara, yo lo daba por perdido. Me explicaba el cartero que la huelga de transportistas retrasó el envio, de no ser por ese contratiempo el paquete hubiese llegado más pronto. Creo que todavía tengo suficiente tela para unos cuantos proyectos más. A decir verdad, pedí este envio porque necesitaba estar segura de que los paquetes llegaban y así poder recomendarles la compra de estas telas maravillosas y no estar hablando de ello sin ningún sentido.

Handmade cards/ Tarjetas hechas en casa

I saved every little bit of scraps from the making of my last quilt. I loved how pretty they looked together and I kind of knew there will be a time when I might regret throwing them away. 

Next week my BIL and his lovely wife will leave Argentina to go to the USA. They'll attend graduate school. Before leaving they decided to spend the whole week with us and the girls here in Cordoba. We're having a great time hosting them, great food, lots of music. She and I chit chat all day long, and the "thank you note" conversation took her by surprise. The giving of a thank you note, a get well card, a greeting card is one of those American traditions that I cherished the most, it's such a special touch to any relationship.

Guardé todos los pedacitos de tela que me quedaron de mi último quilt. Me encantaba lo hermoso que se veían todos juntos y sabía que me arrepentiría luego de haberlos botado.

Resulta que la semana entrante mi cuñado y su esposa dejan la Argentina para continuar sus estudios de posgrado en EEUU y antes de irse decidieron pasar una semana con nosotros acá en Córdoba. Estamos muy contentos de tenerlos en casa, hemos comido rico, hemos disfrutado linda música... Ella y yo podemos pasarnos las horas platicando y en esas conversaciones salió el asunto de las tarjetas de agradecimiento. El dar una tarjeta de agradecimiento, de buenos deseos, o solo para saludarse y hacer saber a alguien que no ha sido olvidado es un lindo gesto muy tradicional en EEUU. Es una de esas buenas costumbres de los americanos que a mi me encanta, le da un toque especial a cualquier relación...

I tought it would be nice to make a few cards for her in case she need them. Luckily, she like them. 

For this little project I used , beside the fabric scraps, some printmaking paper scraps (but it can be any card stock,) and my sewing machine for some fancy stitching. Go ahead, get your fabric scraps out, and make a few cards for any ocassion. You'll love them!

On a different note: Tomorrow is my b-day and my blog anniversary. Please come back for a lovely celebration :)

Pensé que sería lindo que se llevara unas tarjetas por si las llegaba a necesitar. Por suerte, le gustaron.

Para este proyecto usé, aparte de los retacitos de tela, retazos grandes de papel para grabado (en realidad podría ser cualquier cartoncillo) y mi máquina de coser con diferentes puntadas. Así que las invito a que saquen los retacitos para hacer estas tarjetas que en realidad sirven para cualquier ocasión. Les va a encantar como quedan!!

Pasando a otro tema, mañana es my cumpleaños y el aniversario de mi blog también. Por favor vuelvan mañana para una linda celebración :)

47 blocks/ 47 bloques

Of all things to make and do this week, I decided I'll finished my aguylo/solid blocks, and I did!!

De todas las cosas que tengo que hacer esta semana, decidí que iba a terminar mis bloques de aguayo y Kona solids y lo hice!!

I'm happy I ordered just enough fabric. I used it all,  but I didn't run out of it before finishing my blocks. I see why is that lots of quilters are so in love with the solid colors fabrics, they're a blast to work with; too bad I don't have a LQS around here 'cause I'll definitely go get more of these Kona solids.

Felizmente ordené suficiente tela; la usé casi toda y me alcanzó justito para todos mis bloques. Ahora me doy cuenta porque las quilteras estan tan enamoradas de estas telas sólidas, es fascinante trabajar con ellas. Lástima que no tengo una tienda de telas para quilt cerca porque sino ya estaría yo ahí comprando más de estos Kona Solids

Cozied up. / En su funda.

My sewing machine got all cozied up. This is my old sewing machine under it's new house. It's a Kenmore sewing machine my first sewing machine by my first I mean my the first one I owned.

We live in the outskirts of the city, by a river; there's is a dirt road that leads to our tiny neighborhood. The last thing I want to get damaged due to the dust are my sewing machines, and my computer which is next in line to get cozied up.

I added a big pocket on the back to keep the pedal there because; I usually missplace it :P

 

 

Mi máquina de coser está acogedoramente protegida en su nueva funda. Esta fue mi primera máquina de coser, por primera quiero decir que fue la primera máquina propia que tuve.

Vivimos a las afueras de la ciudad, cerca del río. El camino que lleva a nuestro vecindario es de tierra y lo último que quiero que a razón del polvo descomponga  son mis máquinas de coser y mi computadora, la cual será la siguiente en tener su funda.

Le puse un bolsillo grande atrás para guardar ahí el pedal que siempre se me pierde :P

Friday again!! and to finish my week picture perfect [talking figuratively,] I'm sewing a few random blocks out of my scraps and lets see what they become. Hopefully, they'll become a cozy of some sort, at least that's what I'm aming for.I managed to sew 1.5" HST units!!

Viernes otra vez!! y para cerrar la semana con broche de oro, estoy cosiendo unos bloquecitos sin mucha planeación, todos hechos de los retazos más chiquitos que tengo. A ver en qué se convierte, espero que en algún tipo de funda. Logré hacer varios cuadritos HST de solo 1.5"!!

Recycled embroidery floss organizers/ Organizadores para hilos de bordar de reciclaje.

I'm trying to set the mood for my week. I had a terrific awesome weekend cooking with friends, driving the last part of our organic food load (40kg. of cheese among other stuff) from one place to another to be distributed. I made sure everyone had something fun to do for the weekend (sleepovers, and playdates.) Hopefully, the week will be just as good.

My carry-around-craft-tote is empty at the time, and I'm looking for my next embroidery project. I think I'll try some cross stitching this time. I also found a picture I didn't share before. This is the way I organize my embroidery thread. I'm a sucker for gallery postcards and at some point I had just way too many. They're usually made of nice sturdy, and shiny card stock. So why not, I just cut them in half, and punched a few holes along the sides. I don't cut them all! Oh no, I saved the ones from my artist,and musician friends as keep sakes. These organizers make it so easy to avoid my thread to tangle, or even to waste it. Besides, it's a good way to reuse those pretty postcards.

Nada mejor que empezar la semana con el pie derecho. El fin de semana fue fantástico: cocinamos con nuestros amigos, trasladamos la última parte de la compra de comida orgánica de un lado a otro para ser distribuida (40 kg de queso entre otras cosas). Me aseguré que las chicas tuvieran algo divertido que hacer como: juntarse a dormir en casa de alguien o traer amiguitas a jugar a casa. Así que mi semana debería ser igual de fantástica... o al menos espero que así sea.

El bolso que acarreo por todas partes con algún proyectito de costura esta vacío, así que estoy buscando un nuevo patrón de bordado para empezar. Creo que esta vez será algun con punto de cruz. También encontré una foto que no les había mostrado. Esta es la manera en que organizo mis hilos de bordar durante algún proyecto. Me encantan las tarjetas que dan en las galerías de arte; en algún momento mi colección ya tenía demasiadas. Normalmente están hechas de un cartoncillo lindo, durito y con una impresión brillante. Tomé algunas, las corté a la mitad y después las perforé por los costados. Pero no las usé todas, guardé de recuerdo las de las exhibiciones y conciertos de mis amigos artistas y músicos. Organizando mis hilos de esta manera evito que se me enreden y  no desperdicio tanto hilo de bordar; aparte me parece que es una buena manera de  reusar estas lindas tarjetas.

Couple of months I met Graciela Ferrari here in Cordoba at a meeting for the "Patchwork y Quilting en Cordoba".  She's textile artists and a local quilter. At one of our meetings I shared with her some of the fabrics that Bari J sent me to share with other quilters in this side of the world. The fabrics were from her fabric line "Paris Apartment". Here's is the project that Graciela made, isn't it lovely. I'm hoping to see a couple more of projects made with this fabrics. I myself have one going on at the same time. Thank you Graciela for sharing your placemat and you cup jacket with us. And thank you also to Bari J for sharing her fabrics with us.

 

 

Hace un par de meses conocí a Graciela Ferrari en Córdoba a través de un grupo de quilters que empezó hace poco por acá: "Patchwork y quilting en Córdoba." Ella es una artista textil y también hace quilts. En una de las reuniones le compartí telas  Bari J me mandó para compartir con otras quilters en este lado del mundo de su linea "Paris Apartment." Este es el proyecto que Graciela hizo, no es hermoso?? Por ahí vienen un par de proyectos más en camino hechos con la mismas telas. Yo también estoy haciendo uno. Gracias Graciela por compartir tu cubierta para taza y tu individual con nosotras. Y gracias también a Bari J por compartir sus telas con nosotras. 

Stringy triangles/ Triángulos de tiritas
